Points of Interest

Kusturica's wooden town

village

Leaving Uzice westward towards Bosnia through the Sargan tunnel, passing Mokra Gora, you approach Drven Grad (wooden town), the fairytale village creation of Academy Award nominated film director Emir Kusturica.
While shooting his film “Life is a miracle” in Mokra Gora, it is reported that Kusturica sat for weeks waiting for the perfect weather to shoot a particular scene. Sitting atop a hill, he noticed that one plateau in the distance always seemed to have nice weather despite rain and clouds elsewhere. This is where Kusturica chose to build his own ethno styled village made entirely of wood. Many of the cottages are built in the Old Vlach style, typical to the mountain villages on Tara and Zlatibor. The settlement is a recreation of a 19th century village, consisting of many original and reconstructed cottages. Drven Grad has also added to the village a cinema, library, art gallery, souvenir shop, traditional restaurant and coffee shop. A visit to Drven Grad is a unique experience and one even has the chance of spotting one of the world’s best-known film directors.
