The ancient Iulia Concordia, one of the most suggestive Roman and Early Christian archaeological sites of the Veneto, situated at the crossroads of Via Annia and Postumia, was established in 42 A.D.; having flourished during the first two centuries of the Empire, in the late ancient era it became the seat of an arrow factory, sagittae, from which the name derives. In the III century it became the military stronghold and the Basilica Apostolorum was built, together with the adjacent thermal baths and theatre
Concordia is place which greatly charms those who love archaeology and presently one can see the various areas with Roman and Early Christian ruins. Beneath the Cathedral, whose most ancient nucleus goes back to the XI century, lies the great Basilica Apostolorum, built to host the bodies of the apostles. The Basilica has three naves paved with geometric patterns. Coeval to the Cathedral is the precious Byzantine Baptistery with its Greek cross shape on a squared base, in which there is a suggestive series of frescos.
