Cardeto's park
The Parco del Cardeto (Cardeto's Park) is in the central part of Ancona and extends for 35 hectares. It is the widest park in Ancona city and has a lot of historical and natural elements. One of these is the Bastione di San Paolo (Saint Paul's Bastion) on Colle dei Cappuccini (Cappuccini's Hill). The Bastion, born in 1540, is 123 metres long, 16 metres high and up to 3 metres in thickness. Next to the Cardeto and the old lighthouse, there is the "Jews' camp", whose origin dates back to 1428. It counts more than a thousand tombstones and it is a unique witness in our Country. The cemetery was abandoned but now is lovingly recovered.
