Rural houses in the Adriatic area

maltone

The landscape of Ancona province is strongly characterized by a rural aspect which has preserved, even if through different evolutions, an important link with the tradition.

The tourism proposal in the Adriatic area is a sightseeing tour of the traditional rural houses. By recognizing the changes and the recent restructuring, they represent a strong architectural link with the Marche region agricultural landscape of the past. The share farming system was founded on the family both as a traditional breeding social unit and as a production company in which affections, authority, hierarchies were confused with love, affection, respect.

The houses reflect the story of the share farming and the Adriatic coast; some of them are built with mud for the poorest people, others with fired bricks.

The house so-called “a maltone” well represents the research and the historical passion for a living conception, as poor as dignified, of the popular classes; what comes out is an unexpected panorama, rich of settlements, not always in good conditions but recoverable, offering the possibility of further discoveries. A patrimony fruit of the tradition and the culture typical of those families who better knew how to use the resources of the territory without blessing it.
An “ecological” attitude that nowadays takes new value in the research of an ecocompatible form of living.

We think that the clay houses “a maltone” touch the sensibility and the curiosity of our residents and of all those who come to visit us; in this way the cultural heritage becomes a tourist offer of a huge and appreciated rural territory.
We recommend you to follow the itinerary proposed with the necessary tranquillity, slowly trying to observe the beauty of our houses, of our landscape, of the near castles or of the religious architectures, tasting the products of our land so wisely offered by the culture and farmer’s everyday work.

The share farming house shows parallel characteristics as it is possible to see on the other side. The tour proposed starts from Conero towers and houses, built on the beach or near the rocks. These are noble houses or belonging to rich residents from Ancona but have specific characteristics. From the Conero we move towards the hinterland crossing the Coppo up to Camerano. White stone Conero houses mainly renewed and repaired anyway represent an evidence of the past. From Camerino we move towards villages grown around fortified castles. Together with the share farming houses, it is possible to see and visit the houses of “farmers” that is the organizers of the noble or famous families estates of the area who part time lived in Rome at the court of the Pope in the Vatican. It is possible to get to Castelli di Jesi, where the rural houses are almost everywhere up to Monte San Vito and Morro d’Alba.
They characterize the landscape in perfect harmony with the paths that continuously bifurcate. Maybe a life parabola always representing a choice, which leaves the uncertainty of what could have happened if had been different. The tour ends in Senigallia, with the hints of a mature tourist system dated back to the beginning of last century. Here have a meal at Uliassi or Madonnina del Pescatore, two of the most famous Italian restaurants to wonderfully close. your Adriatic tour, to be reproduced also in other places.
