The Adriatic coast is renown for its wonderful sea and its lush vegetation, but beside these attractions one should also discover the history connected to Christianity, in the form of wonderful and silent devotion places near the sea.
The first stop is Caorle, which preserves in the Vescovado square the Cathedral dating back to 1038 and next to it the cylindrical bell tower. On the other hand, at the western end of the city centre, almost on the seafront, you can find the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell’ Angelo, better known as the Chiesa della Madonnina, patron of fishermen. One should not miss Concordia Sagittaria, where you can walk trough a Roman archaeological trail which points out various historical sights. In the Cathedral area, in Cardinal Costantini square, there is a wide excavation area, which has brought to light a Paleochristian basilica, the Basilica Apostolorum. The same age of the Cathedral is the precious Baptistry in Byzantine style with a fascinating cycle of frescoes.
As concerning the Ancona Province, since the Middel Ages, important religious figures have passed through and preached in the Marches. the presence of these heads of religious orders, living lives of spirituality and self-sacrifice, led to the creation of monasteries, abbeys and convents.
